PROSCALE Paint Rack System: Complete Product Guide and Compatibility Chart

PROSCALE

The PROSCALE system includes four product families — paint racks, corner organizers, paint stations, and brush organizers — all built from the same MDF platform and designed to work together. Each product is sized by bottle diameter: 26mm, 33mm, 36mm, or universal.

Modular paint storage system: a set of separate storage units built to the same dimensional standard so they can be placed side-by-side, stacked, or combined into a larger configuration without gaps or misalignment.

MDF: Medium Density Fiberboard, an engineered wood panel made from compressed wood fibers. Denser and more dimensionally stable than plywood. In hobby organizers, it holds its shape under load and resists the bowing that thinner materials develop when 60+ paint bottles are pressing against them.

THE PROSCALE PRODUCT FAMILIES

PROSCALE organizes its catalog into four families, each solving a distinct workspace problem. Understanding what each family does — and what it doesn’t do — is the fastest way to identify which product fits a given setup.

Paint Racks (PR Series): The core family. Frontal racks that hold bottles upright in drilled slots, arranged in tiers. The PR family includes several form factors:

The PR modules are straight, linear organizers — three tiers of slots for bottles, designed to sit along a desk edge or against a wall. Available in 26mm slots (Vallejo and Army Painter dropper bottles), 33mm slots (Citadel pots), and a universal version with open shelves instead of drilled holes. The universal variant accommodates any bottle format but doesn’t hold bottles upright with the same precision as a drilled slot.

The PR-2 is the corner variant — same engineering, bent 90 degrees. It fits into desk corners and is the format of choice for painters with L-shaped or corner desks. Like the linear PR, it comes in 26mm, 33mm, and universal configurations, with a dedicated space for a water pot and brush slots alongside the paint positions.

The PR-3 is the mini organizer — a compact, low-profile unit primarily used inside drawers or as an overflow rack on a secondary surface. It holds a single row of bottles and is the most space-efficient option for painters who need to store a subset of their collection separately from the main rack.

The PR-4 Universal is one of the most widely used products in the line. Four open shelves, no drilled holes, wall-mountable or freestanding. The three lower shelves have a height restriction that prevents taller bottles from tipping, while the top shelf is fully open. Because it has no fixed hole pattern, it fits any bottle format — Tamiya square jars, Citadel pots, Vallejo droppers, or anything else — without forcing a choice at purchase time.

The PR-5 is the vertical organizer — taller and wider at the base than the PR, with tiered shelves that taper toward the top. More stable than the PR-4 under heavy load, at the cost of using more desk or wall space. Available in 26mm, 33mm, and a combined brush/tool variant (PR-5-U-BO) that integrates a tool holder into the upper section.

Corner Organizers (PR-2 Series): As described above, these are the corner-specific form factor of the PR Series, not a separate product category. All PR-2 models share the same footprint — the variable is slot diameter and whether the unit includes drilled slots or open shelves.

Paint Stations (PS Series): A different product concept. Where racks hold paints in place, paint stations are portable self-contained workspaces. A PS unit combines a flat work surface (the “station”), a rear organizer section for paints and brushes, and slots for water pots. The result is a tray that holds everything needed for a session in one object that can be picked up and moved to any surface — or stored between sessions.

Three models cover different paint collections. The PS-A accommodates 26mm dropper bottles (Vallejo, Army Painter) and 36mm large droppers, plus two water pot positions and brush slots. The PS-B is configured for 33mm Citadel pots. The PS-U replaces drilled slots with open shelves, making it format-agnostic.

Brush Organizers (BO Series): Purpose-built holders for brushes and hobby tools. The BO-A is a compact desk unit — a dense grid of holes in different diameters that holds brushes, sculpting tools, and implements upright. It’s designed for desk use only, with a grip slot for transport. The BO-B is wider and wall-mountable, with multiple rows of holes at different diameters to accommodate a full range of brush sizes. The BO-C adds a tray compartment in front of the tool slots — currently in development.

THE DIAMETER SYSTEM — WHY SLOT SIZE IS THE FIRST DECISION

Every drilled-slot PROSCALE product is sized for a specific bottle diameter. Getting the diameter right is the first purchasing decision — buying a 26mm rack for Citadel pots means the pots won’t stay upright because the slots are too small for the wider GW format.

The three standard diameters in the PROSCALE system correspond to the three dominant bottle formats in the hobby paint market:

Slot sizeCompatible paint formatsRepresentative brands
26mmStandard dropper bottleVallejo Model Color, Vallejo Game Color, Army Painter Warpaints, AK Interactive
33mmFlip-top paint potCitadel (all ranges: Base, Layer, Contrast, Shade, Texture)
36mmLarge dropper bottleVallejo (72ml format)
UniversalAny formatAll brands — fits via open shelves, no fixed slot size

Dropper bottle: a paint container with a narrow dispensing tip, typically 17–20ml, that releases paint drop by drop. Vallejo and Army Painter use this format as their standard across most ranges. The 26mm diameter covers the vast majority of dropper bottle brands.

Citadel pot: the 12ml flip-top container used by Games Workshop’s Citadel paint line across all product ranges. At 33mm diameter, it’s wider than a standard dropper bottle and requires a different slot size.

For painters with a mixed collection — Citadel alongside Vallejo, for instance — two options exist: a universal-format rack (open shelves, no drilled holes), or separate racks per brand. The PR-4 Universal is the default recommendation for mixed collections because it accommodates every diameter without a slot-size decision. The trade-off is that bottles rest on a shelf rather than sitting in a fitted slot, which means less vertical constraint. For most painters, this isn’t a practical issue. For painters who knock things off their desk regularly, a fitted-slot rack keeps bottles more secure.

HOW THE PR SERIES CONNECTS AS A SYSTEM

The PR, PR-2, PR-3, PR-5, and PR-7 families share a common lateral profile. When units are placed side-by-side, the side panels align without gaps. Two PR-A modules placed next to each other create a continuous rack that looks like a single wider unit. This is the modular principle — not that the pieces physically lock together, but that they’re dimensionally matched to combine cleanly.

This matters in practice when a collection grows. A painter who starts with a single PR-A for 40 Vallejo bottles can add a second PR-A when the collection reaches 80, and the two units sit flush on the desk without visual discontinuity. The same logic applies to wall arrangements: multiple PR-5 units mounted in a row create a paint wall with consistent spacing and no awkward gaps.

The brush organizers and paint stations don’t share the same lateral profile — they’re standalone products. A PS unit is designed to be carried, not combined into a row. A BO unit sits on a desk independently. The system principle applies specifically to the rack family.

Assembly across all products follows the same process: flat-pack panels slot together through interlocking joints, secured with white craft glue. Most units require no tools. Assembly time is typically under 20 minutes. The PR-4 Universal can hold together without glue due to a reinforced joint design, though glue is still recommended for long-term stability.

OPERATIONAL SCENARIO

A painter finishes their first Warhammer army and orders a Citadel paint set. The 30 new pots go into a single PR-2-33MM corner rack — it fits perfectly in the desk corner, and there’s room to grow.

A year later, the collection has expanded to 80 pots across three Citadel ranges. The original rack is full. Instead of replacing it, a second PR-2-33MM is placed next to the first on the desk, or they move to wall mounting to free desk space entirely.

Six months after that, a Vallejo primer and some Model Air bottles appear in the collection — 26mm dropper format. The 33mm slots don’t fit them. The painter adds a PR-A (26mm) to the desk.

Three separate purchase decisions. No wasted hardware. Each product was right for its moment, and the modular principle meant the additions required no restructuring.

The lesson: the system is designed for growth, not replacement. Buying entry-level doesn’t mean buying wrong.

FAQ

What paint brands fit a PROSCALE 26mm rack? The 26mm slot is sized for standard dropper bottles — the most common format in the hobby paint market. Vallejo Model Color, Vallejo Game Color, Vallejo Game Ink, Army Painter Warpaints, and AK Interactive all use this diameter. When in doubt, check the bottle’s widest point with a caliper; if it’s close to 26mm, the fit is typically correct.

Can one PROSCALE rack hold both Citadel pots and Vallejo dropper bottles? Not in a drilled-slot configuration — the slot sizes are different (33mm for Citadel, 26mm for Vallejo standard dropper). The solution for mixed collections is the Universal format: the PR-4-U or PR-2-U has open shelves instead of drilled holes, so any bottle format rests on the shelf without a fit issue. The trade-off is that bottles aren’t held in a fixed slot, which reduces positional stability compared to a fitted rack.

What is the difference between a PROSCALE paint rack and a paint station? A paint rack holds bottles in a fixed location — on a desk or wall. A paint station (PS series) is a portable unit that combines a work surface, paint storage, and brush holders in one object you can carry. Paint stations are the right choice for painters who work on a shared or temporary surface (kitchen table, couch, travel). Paint racks are for permanent or semi-permanent desk and wall setups.

Do PROSCALE products need tools to assemble? Most models require no tools — the panels slot together through precision-cut joints and are secured with white craft glue. The main materials needed are the included components and standard white PVA glue. Assembly time is typically 15–20 minutes. The PR-4 Universal is designed to hold together without glue, though glue is still recommended for permanent setups.

Can PROSCALE racks be used both on a desk and wall-mounted? Most models in the PR and PR-5 families support both orientations. Wall mounting requires a flat surface and standard mounting hardware (the units have pre-drilled mounting points). The BO-B brush organizer also supports wall mounting. The PS paint stations and PR-3 mini organizers are desk/drawer use only — they aren’t designed for wall installation.

Is the PROSCALE system compatible between models from different product generations? The PR, PR-2, PR-5 series share a common lateral profile, which means units from these families can be placed side-by-side with aligned panels. Products within the same family purchased at different times will fit flush together as long as the variant is the same (both 26mm, or both 33mm). Check the product description to confirm the variant before combining units.

For painters starting with a single product or expanding an existing setup, the PROSCALE range covers every collection size from a beginner’s first 30 bottles to a full paint wall of 200+. The system is designed to grow in stages without requiring replacement. For specific product recommendations based on your collection size and available space, the PROSCALE starter guide simplifies the choice.
